About - A Distant Kingdom
I’ve been visiting Bamburgh for more than 25 years and photographing the place for the last 16, yet somehow I’m still drawn back to this beach time and time again. There’s something about standing here alone in the early hours, with the sea quietly washing around my feet and the castle rising above the dunes, that never seems to lose its magic.
There’s always that sense of anticipation — waiting for the first light of the day to break across the horizon and, if you’re lucky, bathe the landscape in that beautiful golden glow. Even after all these years, I can still stand here and simply soak it all in.
This particular morning offered no promise of a spectacular sunrise. The wind was howling, the rain was coming in, and I had the entire beach to myself — hardly surprising given the conditions.
But that’s the beauty of landscape photography. You turn up anyway.
And on this occasion, it was absolutely worth it.
