About The Sentinel
Walking out towards The Needle along the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye in complete darkness, I had no idea what the morning would bring. Reaching my chosen position before first light, I waited in anticipation as the landscape slowly began to emerge from the darkness.
As the first light broke across the island, the scene surpassed every expectation I had imagined for my first visit to this extraordinary location.
Then, for a fleeting moment, the light found The Needle and illuminated the towering cliff face surrounding me, while a deep, moody sky stretched overhead. Standing there, surrounded by the scale and drama of the landscape, was a moment I will never forget.
It was one of those rare moments in landscape photography when everything comes together — light, atmosphere, landscape and timing — creating an experience that stays with you long after the shutter closes.
