About - The Winter Kingdom
This was one of those mornings when the alarm going off felt like the beginning of an adventure.
An early start, a long three-hour drive north and the promise of winter conditions were more than enough to get me out of bed and heading towards Kilchurn Castle. By the time I arrived, the cold was absolutely bitter, but there was something incredibly exciting about standing beside Loch Awe and watching the snow begin to fall.
The mountains were already disappearing beneath a veil of cloud and snow, and with every passing minute the scene changed. Then the snowfall really started, drifting across the loch and softening the distant peaks until Kilchurn Castle seemed to stand almost alone in the wilderness.
Despite the cold, I couldn't have been happier. These are the moments I head into the Highlands for — the unpredictable weather, the raw conditions and that feeling of excitement when everything suddenly comes together in front of the camera.
For me, this isn't simply a photograph of Kilchurn Castle. It's a memory of a bitterly cold morning, a three-hour drive into the Highlands and the sheer excitement of watching Scotland transform before me as the snow came down.
